10 Most Underrated Performances In Game Of Thrones
7. John Bradley – Samwell Tarly
Jon Snow is often viewed as the undisputed hero of Game of Thrones, and as such, his best friend and frequent companion can be too easily overlooked.
Though many of Martin’s characters were brought vividly to life, Bradley excelled with his performance in this regard.
After years of neglect from his bullying father, Sam arrived at the Night’s Watch as a coward who felt totally out of his depth. However, as time went on, Sam became more confident and useful to the brothers of the Night’s Watch. This transition was perfectly executed by Bradley, as Sam’s arc never felt rushed or lacking in authenticity.
Moreover, Sam’s time in the Citadel was a great subplot. When training to become a maester, he had to undertake a number of unpleasant tasks, the worst of which was removing the greyscale from Jorah Mormont. This particular scene was wonderfully performed by both actors, and was a prime example of how to build tension without excessive violence or large-scale battle sequences.
Though Bradley’s performance was often quiet and subtle, it was always captivating.
