10 Most Underrated Performances In Game Of Thrones

8. Jack Gleeson - Joffrey Baratheon

Ramsay Bolton Theon Greyjoy
HBO

Before Ramsay made an appearance in Season 3, there was no doubt that Joffrey was the most hated character in the show, and much of this was down to Gleeson.

In line with Martin’s original depiction, Joffrey was portrayed like a spoilt child who indulged in a number of deprived acts. The first real sign of his venom was on the road from Winterfell to King’s Landing, during which he threatened to kill Arya’s friend Mycah. It was here that Gleeson revealed the sadistic side of his character that would become so prevalent in the episodes to come.

Joffrey’s reaction to the Red Wedding was also a highlight of Gleeson’s portrayal. In contrast to the audience’s reaction of horrific sadness, Joffrey was positively gleeful at the news of Robb Stark’s demise.

Possibly due to the nature of his character, Gleeson isn’t praised enough amongst Game of Thrones fans.
