Normally a show begins with the protagonist starting out on their new life, or some villain assuming power or some new discovery that could change the world. Rarely do you see a show beginning with the death of its own main protagonist. But that’s what you get with The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. Based on the 1989 comic series by James O’Barr, the premise of the show is formed by the murders of musician Eric Draven and his lover Shelly Webster.

One year on, a mystical crow brings Draven back to life in the form of the half-dead entity that takes up the moniker of The Crow. Subsequently he embarks on a bloody mission to exact revenge on those responsible for his death.

The show presents a beautiful, rough tale of a man who had been victimized by those with power. As a viewing experience it is an oddly cathartic escape, where unlike the real world there is a form of divine intervention that levels the playing field when standing up to injustice. Complete with perfectly fitting gothic visuals, it is a true 90s classic.

And the only reason it ranks low on the list is because perhaps it is somewhat more well-known than many of the others above it.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
