10 Most Underrated TV Actors Of All Time
3. Paula Malcolmson
Paula Malcolmson might not have the most recognisable name in TV, but she's sure made a name for herself playing deeply complex women who are capable of standing up to the unreasonable and just plain awful men around her.
Malcolmson rose to prominence on the hit HBO masterpiece Deadwood, where she starred as spirited and tough sex worker Trixie for the show's three-season run (as well as the 2019 follow-up film).
In the role, Malcolmson held her own against the veteran film actors Ian McShane and Brad Dourif, and often surpassed them thanks to her endearing vulnerability, tough demeanor and complex personality.
After Deadwood was unceremoniously cancelled, Malcolmson found herself cast as Abby Donovan, the wife of the show's eponymous Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber).
Again, Malcolmson was cast in a role that required her to play an emotionally tough character, forced to only grow stronger because of her troubling personal relationships.
In the role, Malcolmson was comparable to The Sopranos' Edie Falco - hard-edged, no-nonsense, tragic and endearing, and though she left after the show's fifth season, she still stands as one of its greatest stars.
