10 Most Underrated TV Shows Of The Last 10 Years

5. Guilt

Guilt follows two brothers, Max and Jake, who accidentally run down an old man on their way home from a wedding. In attempting to cover up the crime, they find their fractious fraternal relationship buckling under the pressure from law enforcement and other interested parties.

Guilt is a blackly comic thriller set in Scotland's beautiful capital city. However, in the grand tradition of Robert Louis Stevenson and Irvine Welsh, it shows off the city's darker side. Many have drawn comparisons to the Coen brothers in writer Neil Forsyth's gift for crafting dialogue and memorable characters and it's a comparison that is well earned.

What's most impressive about Guilt is how the second series builds on the world that Forsyth has created. Most mini-series end up dragging out their story past the natural endpoint, but Guilt 2 tells a new, gripping story of murder and dark secrets whilst allowing you time with your favourite characters from the first series.

As an original series for relatively new national broadcaster BBC Scotland, it hasn't been the huge hit that it deserves with a generation brought up on big streaming services. A shame as this is a rewarding discovery to make.
