10 Most Underrated TV Shows Of The Last 10 Years
4. Bojack Horseman
Amongst those in the know, BoJack Horseman is a masterpiece. It is hands down, the finest series to be purely commissioned for streaming, and is up there with the likes of Mad Men and The Sopranos for how it deals with masculinity, addiction and mental health. It just so happens to feature a talking horse. Get past the cartoon trappings and there is a deeply rewarding character study at the series' heart.
BoJack is a former sitcom actor whose star is on the wain, as he tries desperately to make a comeback, his own self-destructive relationship with alcohol, drugs and women trips him up at every turn. BoJack Horseman is to the Hollywood system what Mad Men was for advertising or The Sopranos was for organised crime. It presents us with a compelling but difficult and unpleasant protagonist, and as the series continues we feel increasingly like we're complicit in BoJack's breakdowns.
The show goes to some incredibly dark places and tackles a lot of the key talking points from Hollywood in recent years with equal parts sensitivity and scathing commentary.
