10 Most Underrated TV Shows Of The Last 10 Years

2. The Leftovers

In the grand history of HBO shows - The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood etcetera, The Leftovers is rather left by the wayside.

Which is a shame, as it is tremendous and has only gained in relevance in recent years. Taking place after 2% of the Earth's population miraculously disappeared, it follows those who are struggling to rebuild their lives and make sense of such a seismic event.

Co-created by Lost's Damon Lindelof, it retains a lot of that show's spirituality but is more narratively satisfying.

A strong ensemble cast that includes Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston and Carrie Coon bring actorly heft to the show's deep thematic concerns. Watching it in 2021 can be a rather unnerving experience, as we deal with our own existential threat, but it's a worthwhile one.

The grim tone of the first series received some criticism and is likely why the show is less championed than it should be. It's well worth the journey though, and has since been critically acclaimed as one of the great television series of our time.

Hopefully a wider audience will come to appreciate it in later years.
