6. Go To Hell - Star Trek 6

The Undiscovered Country rivals Wrath of Khan for the darkest of the Original Series era films, eclipsing the latter in many ways. It had the benefit of being produced while the Next Generation was airing, featuring a cameo from Michael Dorn as Colonel Worf during the trial scene, and a small role by future Deep Space Nine star Rene Auberjonois. The original actors are aged - even the ever youthful Checkov is showing middle age, while the rest are all ready for retirement.

Not only are the actors getting on but the Enterprise herself is said to be aging. As the film opens, the crew speak about their impending stand down from Starfleet. The events of the film thrust them into action one last time and the ship is given a beating by the Klingons (nothing new there then). Once the crimes are identified and the heroes applauded, they gather together on the bridge again. Captain Sulu bids them farewell and the USS Excelsior pulls away, leaving the Enterprise to travel onward.

Although, she is called home for decommissiong. There is a moment and the crew look to each other, each feeling the ending approach. Then, a deep voice speaks - 'If I were human, I believe my response would be - go to hell. If I were human.'

The music swells, the crew smiles and they fly onward, one last time, second star to the right and straight on til morning. Magic.
