10 Must-See New TV Shows Starting In February 2022
7. Bel-Air
This is must-see in that it looks to be one of the most bizarre shows in recent memory. The show came to being when Morgan Cooper created a fan trailer for an imagined gritty reboot of ‘90s classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The video came to Will Smith’s attention, and three years later, the project is to become a reality.
It’s a charming example of dreams coming true for Cooper, but does this ever look like a strange proposition. Rather than a goofy teen who could caught up in a fight, Will is now a tearaway fleeing from violence in Philadelphia. Uncle Phil is a slick problem solver, and Carlton is the preppy kid who rules the roost rather than a social outcast.
If it weren’t for the production values, you’d think the trailer was a joke; to that end, the finished product qualifies as must-see TV. Taking the bones of the Fresh Prince story, there’s something to work with - a gifted but troubled kid is dropped into a world of privilege (n.b this is also the plot of The O.C).
It’s fair to guess that a lot of people will tune into this to see just how bad it manages to be, though. The answer could well be Pretty Bad indeed.
