10 Must-See Previous Roles From New Twin Peaks Residents
4. Robert Forster – Max Cherry, Jackie Brown
Michael Ontkean’s absence from the revival is completely heart-breaking – there’s no getting around it, unfortunately. In Forster, however, they have found a perfect replacement. Possessing the qualities so beloved of our erstwhile Sheriff, Forster displays all of them in his incredibly nuanced, Oscar-nominated performance. The very definition of earnest soul.
His half-requited love for Jackie Brown’s titular protagonist mirrors his new character’s ill-fated obsession with Josie Packard, and in another neat parallel, Forster was actually the original choice to play Truman before withdrawing due to scheduling conflicts.
In Forster, we have an equaliser; while the winning chemistry between Kyle MacLachlan's Dale Cooper and Ontkean's Truman will be sorely missed, and the interactions between Cooper and Forster's Truman will be incongruous, Forster is the superior actor, and his plaintive portrayal of Max Cherry is the best way of reaching the acceptance stage of the grieving process.
