10 New TV Shows That Are Already Doomed

3. The Idol

HBO's new drama series The Idol certainly has plenty of clout attached, what with it being co-created by Sam Levinson (Euphoria) and singer The Weeknd.

The show stars Lily-Rose Depp as a pop star who embarks on a relationship with a cult leader (The Weeknd) to try and win back the title of the sexiest pop star in the U.S.

The cast is absolutely stacked - also counting among its number Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hank Azaria, Elizabeth Berkley, and the late Anne Heche - but numerous reports indicate that production ran wildly off the rails.

For one, series director Amy Seimetz suddenly left the show half-way through filming after shooting several episodes, with The Weeknd apparently feeling that it was "leaning too much into a female perspective" - whatever that means, for a series with a female protagonist.

Levinson took over as director from Seimetz, though later reports stated that Levinson ended up scrapping Seimetz's work and reshot the show with a different narrative approach which featured more sex and nudity. That... sounds like Sam Levinson alright.

With the six-episode series set to debut imminently, it just might be the hate-watch of the season.
