10 One-Time Saturday Night Live Hosts Who Should Host Again
2. Dan Akyroyd
Hosted: May 17, 2003 Surprisingly, the most successful member of the original "Not Ready For Primetime Players" has only hosted once. Dan Aykroyd has done more than a dozen guest-appearances throughout the years- even seemingly taking over the role of host from his Blues Brothers 2000 co-star John Goodman in a Season 27 episode as Aykroyd announced the musical guest solo- he has only officially hosted once, and that was in 2003. As the 2014-15 season will be the 40th season for Saturday Night Live, Dan Aykroyd as host would be purely a callback to the original cast, a bit of living history if you will. Guest spots from the surviving members of that first season- Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, Garrett Morris, etc.- could be added bits of fun. One weird hold-up that may occur: Aykroyd has said in interviews he would like to see a Canadian musical the next time he hosts (as he feels Canadian bands do not get enough exposure in the United States.) Producer Lorne Michaels (himself Canadian-born) is not known for taking demands from hosts without putting up a fight (or ultimately accepting, but then never inviting them back.) I think an exception can be made with the original cast member if that is all it takes to appease Aykroyd. (FYI: the musical guest for his one hosting gig was American-born singer Beyoncé.
