As Nancy and Jonathan began to learn more and more about the Demogorgon throughout the first season, they figured out that, despite its unpredictably scary nature, there was one definitive thing that would summon it: Blood.

This, however, was a fact that we had learned earlier than even they did, as it targeted Barb after she cut her finger at Steve's house and feasted on an injured deer. Adding to that, the creature would later be drawn out when Jonathan cut his own hand and when Eleven killed all of the lab's agents by making them bleed from their eyes.

That, however, appears to contradict the very foundation of the story itself: Will Byers' disappearance. When Will was targeted by the creature, he hadn't injured himself and he wasn't bleeding - and this, of course, begs the question: Why did the Demogorgon target him?

Sure, you could argue that it was disorientated because it just broke out of the lab, but why then did it consistently target Joyce in her own home, and Nancy in the woods? There wasn't a drop of blood in sight for either of these scenarios, so what brought it out?

Like we said, the creature is unpredictable, but given that the writers went to such an effort to push the blood philosophy on us, it seems a little strange that there were so many gaps in it.
