Eleven and Max's impromptu shopping trip to the Starcourt mall was both one of the most touching and aesthetically-pleasing moments of Season 3, as it gave us a chance to get to see El enjoy life like any teenage girl should, while also piling on all the '80s nostalgia that we could have hoped for.

However, as the two girls showcased their new outfits and posed for fashionable photographs in an epic slow-mo Material Girl montage, did anyone actually stop to think how any of them managed to afford all of this?

Sure, maybe Max had some change to spare, but could a teenager who, as far as we know, didn't have a job really have afforded all of that? And something tells us that Hopper wouldn't have lent El any money, considering that he didn't want her out in large crowds.

Out of context, it may not have been that noticeable but, as this played out parallel to Mike's inability to afford anything that the store had on offer, it stuck out like a sore thumb.
