10 Predictions For The Future Of Humanity (According To Doctor Who)
6. New York City Will Live Forever...
A little more cheery, then, is the news that New York will endure. Hooray! It is a hell of a town, after all, which has already managed to whether the Great Depression, various hurricanes and other natural disasters, gentrification, Giuliani, and Godzilla. Much like the rebuilt city in Futurama, the Big Apple will live on if not in its original form then rebuilt in various space colonies of the sort humanitys apparently going to be building everywhere, with New New York (which is literally what its called in Matt Groenings cartoon, too) being a central part of the New Earth the Tenth Doctor showed Rose a few series back. No less an authority than the Daleks said that New York City is one of the few aspects of human culture that will endure through all of history. The original city will eventually get blown up by a nuclear weapon, as foretold by the novel The Indestructible War - considering its such a large and symbolic human settlement, thats again sadly possible IRL - but that iconic nature is what will inspire people to keep rebuilding it over and over again. By the time they visit it in New Earth, in fact, its been brought back from the dead some fourteen times, with The Doctor quipping they should call it (deep breath) New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New York.
