Pearl and Peter’s chemistry was so great that many fans have overlooked the fact that most of series 10’s episodes have been lackluster at best, the one exception being Thin Ice. Even though this was only Bill’s third adventure, the character was already at peak levels of excitement and skepticism.

As much as she loved exploring a fantastical version of Regency-era London—which included a bazaar on the ever-frozen Thames—at the same time she became miffed over how The Doctor was able to witness death and poverty with hardly a bat of the eyelash.

In the end they come to an understanding, but not before liberating a monstrous sea creature that’d essentially been a prisoner under the ice, defeating a heartless businessman by any means necessary, and setting up a group of young street urchins with more wealth than they could ever spend. Yes, even the 12th Doctor can have a fun, light-hearted episode every now and again.
