It may be fairly toned down and still have a few differences, but the majority of the Constantine TV show is similar to the Hellblazer comics, particularly when it comes to the spirit in which it was written - and the character of John Constantine himself. A lot of the people, history and stories in Constantine will be familiar to Hellblazer fans. The recurring mentions of the Newcastle incident is a nod to Hellblazers John, who was also driven to insanity by failing to stop the child Astra from being dragged to Hell. Both the comic and TV versions of Constantine had a great deal of their outlook on life shaped by this event. With so many Hellblazer stories to pick from, as well as the new plot lines that Constantines writers are adding, the show has the potential for many more seasons. Also, look out for the end of season one episode coming soon - based on arguable one of the best Hellblazers ever created: the prison-based Hard Times.
