10 Reasons Why Constantine Must Not Get Cancelled

5. John The Anti-hero

It€™s great to have the hero of a TV show who isn€™t a clean-cut, emotionally well-balanced superman - John Constantine€™s definitely no saint, the man's got some real issues. He may know the difference between right and wrong, but he€™ll do whatever he feels needs to be done, no matter how unpleasant. And how many leading men smoke these days? Yet the character isn€™t so much of a misanthropist that he€™s unlikable, most people are able to relate to his world-weariness and mild contempt for humanity. Certainly we don€™t always want leading male characters to be have model good looks and perfect lives. There are several issues of Hellblazer that explore the moments in John€™s past - his experiences and relationships especially - that made him the man he is today. Should the show continue, having episodes focusing on John€™s history would be an interesting break from the ongoing storyline. Surely an episode based on the Newcastle incident is something that€™s being considered.
