10 Reasons Family Guy Is The Laziest Show On Television

6. An Over-Reliance On Pop Culture References And Non-Sequiturs

Some time ago, there was an episode of South Park where a joke was made about Family Guy being written by manatees who pick topics for cutaway gags at random. And given just how irrelevant and stupid Family Guy's cutaways have gotten in recent years, it's genuinely started to seem that this is actually the case. The show tries so hard to be random for the sake of being random that it just comes off as lowbrow and uninspired

Moreover, speaking of South Park, there are also certain jokes in Family Guy that legitimately feel like they're being written by the Memberberries. The pop culture references used in Family Guy are, again, just there for the sake of being there.

Yes, one of Family Guy's points is to take a satirical look at pop culture, but it's reached the point of being far too heavy-handed. and not even remotely funny. In fact, more often than not, these bits aren't even jokes anymore, they're just a winks and nods of "hey, remember this movie and/or television show? This was a thing that existed, am I right?"

It's become apparent that they only include these references to get a cheap, nostalgic response.
