10 Reasons Family Guy Is The Laziest Show On Television
7. Overlong Gags Used For Padding
You know a writing staff is shamelessly lazy when they can't even be bother to fill a twenty-two-minute episode with actual content.
Family Guy has become notorious for the way it formats some of its gags. The gag starts, it may or may not be genuinely funny for a bit, it dragons on for way longer than it should to the point where it's no longer funny, then drags on for even longer than that. Meanwhile, the viewer sits in disbelief as to how stupid all of this is.
There's the infamous scene where Peter falls and hurts his knee with the same three frames of animation of him groaning are looped over and over again for a solid thirty seconds that feels more like an eternity, not to mention that the gag has been repeated on numerous occasions (which ties back into the last point.) Plus, there's the aforementioned Conway Twitty cutaways, one of which effectively wasted an entire three minutes of showtime, because why not?
Yes, this style of gag can be funny because it averts the viewer's expectations, but in this case, it's yet another example of Family Guy beating a dead horse.
