10 Reasons Murder House Is The Best Season Of American Horror Story
5. An Amazing Supporting Cast
Murder House may be most remembered for the Harmon trio, but where would the show be without its backup cast? It became more apparent in later seasons, but no character is ever a main in Horror Story, so just like Lost, anyone is game for an early exit. The first season echoed The Others with its "everybody's dead" mantra, and it meant death was just a formality - thankfully a character resurrection was never far away.
With a smaller cast, Murder House offered the cream of the Horror Story crop - as said, it gave us our first glimpse of Jessica Lange. However, where there is Lange there is always Conroy, and Francis Conroy's role as the seductive and sympathetic maid Moira gave us a right good bitch-fest. Then we had Denis O'Hare as the conniving Larry - he escaped with his life, but not with punishment, leaving the house like a Freddy Krueger wannabe. A forgotten gem of the show's first season was Lily Rabe's brief stint as sassy socialite Nora Montgomery. With a typical glum ending, the Montgomery's were the origin of the murders in the murder house.
Arguably the Harmon storyline fell a bit flat in the middle, but the tales of those around them picked up the horror of Horror Story. As later seasons developed more wicked characters, you always felt that the Murder House inhabitants were just wrong place, wrong time, with each having a sadder story than the last.
