10 Reasons People Stopped Watching The Walking Dead

6. Too Miserable

One of the things that many people loved about The Walking Dead in the early years was that the show wasn't all about heroes and happy endings. After all, in real life, the good guys don't always come out on top and things can go badly. The harsh realities of post-apocalyptic life are a selling point of TWD, but there's only so much sadness viewers can take.

Season 7 proved to be the tipping point for many viewers as the heroic Rick Grimes had his soul and mind totally crushed by the evil Negan. Nothing seemed to go right for our heroes as the show's only decent love story, between Glenn and Maggie, was shattered in the most brutal fashion, and, like poor Glenn's head, viewers were mercilessly pummelled with one miserable event after another.

Abraham and Sasha's deaths were similarly tragic, and the torture of Daryl was horrible to watch. The show has always had heartbreaking moments, from the death of Beth to the tragic birth of baby Judith, along with the revelation that little Sophia was dead all along. Sadness is a part of The Walking Dead experience, but many viewers eventually reached a saturation point.
