10 Reasons The Walking Dead Needs To End

7. It Cannot Be Dragged On The Way The Graphic Novels Have

Building from the fact that in reality there aren't that many stories left to tell, the show simply cannot be dragged on the way the comics have been. Yes, there is some good material in the later issues, but the reality is the comic format can sustain the franchise in a way the show cannot. Robert Kirkman has talked about going past ten years, even fifteen years, on television - and by that point, audiences will simply have become sick of the show as storylines grow stale. The sort of run Kirkman is envisioning is likely to result in a bleeding of fans as they lose interest and slowly drop off. That in turn may result in budget cuts, and upset the remaining fans, ending in cancellation. It's a what-if scenario, to be sure, but no drama save Gunsmoke has really had that sort of longevity, and that was a different era entirely. To avoid this, The Walking Dead needs to have an ending planned, and ready to execute, within the next few reasons.
