10 Reasons The Walking Dead Needs To End

4. Seven Is The Magic Number

There's a magic number in TV Land, and it's 7. In terms of TV dramas, lucky seven is the number of years that a show can go while being successful. Shows that are smart end at seven seasons. Star Trek: The Next Generation did just that; Buffy the Vampire Slayer did it (and the last year was really pushing it); The Golden Girls; The West Wing; Burn Notice and Mad Men all had seven seasons. The current plan for HBO's mega-hit Game Of Thrones is also to have it end in seven seasons, though author George R. R. Martin's snail's pace may prevent that. Still, seven seasons is generally though to be the point most TV dramas need to wrap things up. It's also something of a magic number for syndication: while 100 episodes is key, a full seven seasons makes a show most valuable. Financials aside, however, creatively, the number of shows that continue to produce a high volume of quality episodes beyond seven years is a fair bit lower than those who call it a day prior to seven seasons. So from a quality standpoint, it's time for the show to consider wrapping things up.
