10 Reasons Why Bob's Burgers Is Better Than Family Guy

6. Better Humour

This is probably the most contentious reason of all. In many ways, Family Guy can be utterly hilarious with its well-timed slapstick, abrasive language and willingness to be so bold with its content. But the humour of Family Guy also involves rape jokes, overlong sequences used to pad out the episodes and old gags being routinely repeated, when they were frankly never funny to begin with. The cartoon tries desperately hard to use shock value as a way of standing out, when it never really has a purpose or payoff to it.

The comedy of Bob’s Burgers is more universally accessible because it utilises the eccentricity of its characters to its advantage, making for some funny storylines. The writers never make a throwaway comment just for the sake of being controversial and simply provide a more wholesome form of humour. Plus, both shows heavily feature flatulence jokes, but somehow Bob’s Burgers knows how to use them for every episode without the gag ever going stale.
