10 Reasons Why Bob's Burgers Is Better Than Family Guy

5. No Cutaways

Admittedly, you could put most animated shows up against Family Guy and claim they’re better because they don’t have cutaways. That said, there’s never been a moment in Bob’s Burgers where the plot is abruptly halted for a frivolously long scene of Conway Twitty, a giant chicken fight or a random joke specifically targeted at a public figure.

Granted, Family Guy cutaways can be really funny, but in an episode that runs for just under twenty-five minutes, it’s important to keep the story focused and to the point, and often a cutaway gag takes away from that.

Bob’s Burgers tends to stay away from this type of device in order to keep the narrative concise. And if there is a cutaway gag used, it’s usually utilised as a flashback to help advance the story. Family Guy’s over-reliance on out-of-plot gags just comes across as lazy writing.
