10 Reasons Why Doctor Who Is The Right Way To Reboot

3. The Energy Of Youth And Wisdom Of Age

It€™s been ten years since the reintroduction of the Doctor. In that time the popularity of the show has sky-rocketed with the 50th anniversary episode broadcast in 94 countries simultaneously. While the show remains fresh that does not mean it discounts its age. The new series walks a fine line between paying homage to the past and advancing towards the future and does it quite well. Peter Capaldi may be an older Doctor but his portrayal is tinged with child-like stubbornness and whimsy. He hasn€™t forgotten where he came from and neither have the people who write, direct and produce the show. Attempting to appeal to different age groups can be a trap. Some shows stumble as they try to be all things to all people. Doctor Who succeeds because it doesn€™t try to explain too much. It trusts its audience, no matter their age or experience, to keep up. It has faith in their ability to comprehend or at least suspend disbelief for the sake of enjoying a wild ride. That€™s refreshing in an age of segmented programming that seeks to pander rather than illuminate.
