9. Dream Sequences
Back in its first season, songs in Glee were largely for plot or some kind of class assignment. Like the mash-ups episode, songs were sung for competition, not for the sake of it. Nowadays, so many songs are popping up all over the show that they dont fit in with anything. As a result, there is a High School Musical essence to the show, with songs being sung in dream sequences whilst walking down the corridors, as opposed to on the stage or in the classroom. This wouldnt be a problem if it only happened every now and then, but it seems to be happening in every other episode at least. Having Brody dance around a hotel with a bunch of prostitutes singing How To Be A Heartbreaker makes no sense whatsoever. Having the Glee club unite over a sense of solidarity whilst singing Dont Dream Its Over does make sense, because it feels authentic. This oversaturation of dream sequences demonstrates the writers lack of creativity and mentality of well, we might as well chuck a song in here and hope it sells well on iTunes.
