7. Lack Of Characterisation
On the other hand, some characters are overexposed to the point that we hope they get struck down with a severe bout of mono. Blaine has sung in pretty much every episode this past season, as well as being at the epicentre of 83% of storylines. Its clear he is the new Rachel, but even Rachel had a few days off. Its also apparent that the writers are contractually obliged to have the old seniors pop up on occasion, but then give us no reason to care about them. The grand return of Mercedes to Glee is almost instantly derailed by a lazy, rehashed storyline about her image. The writers have overworked the character so much that they dont really know what to do with her now. Also Sam was given a prominent role this season. Now I like Sam, hes a funny character. But there is no consistency to his character. Hes got about four things going on at once that it seems the writers are relying on him because hes a good fall back for jokes, as well as being one of the few established characters left at McKinley.
