10 Reasons Why Glee Is Failing

4. Too Many Songs

klaine.glee.break.up.teenage.dream.ends.images So many episodes have upwards of seven songs nowadays. That€™s far too much. The songs are beginning to overshadow the storylines. Back in season one; there was an episode that featured only one song. That allowed for the plot to flourish and for us to actually care for the characters. It seems the writers are looking for the quick buck from iTunes sales, churning out song after song, regardless of whether they tie in with the story at all. It€™s become the norm for New Directions to sing a closing number, but how often does this number actually relate to the episode at all. Remember when they sung €˜Keep Holding On?€™ That fit in with the story perfectly. You€™ll be lucky to find anything remotely like that now. The songs work much better when given some context, such as season two€™s €˜Duets€™. Every song in this episode had a purpose, the idea of competing against one another. Competition episodes are largely similar (with the exception of season two€™s €˜New York€™ in which songs were cropping up every two minutes). They need to cut back on the songs and pay more attention to plot and character development.
