10 Reasons Why How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Isn't As Bad As You Remember

Since the start of the show, any time any character asked Barney what his job was, he only responded with a chuckle and said the word 'Please'.

Turns out there was a lot more to it.

In the first season of the show, we learn that Barney suited up and entered the corporate world after his girlfriend Shannon cheated on him with business executive Greg, believing that would be the only way to success in his life.

Fast forward eight years and the night before his wedding, a very drunk Barney reveals to Ted and Robin his entire corporate career has been a revenge plot against that same executive. After hearing more about 'P.L.E.A.S.E' - an abbreviation for a job where Barney was signing incriminating legal documents to take the fall for his company - we're then treated to a flash-forward after the wedding, where he informs Greg he's been working with the US Federal Government the whole time.

As far as long games go, we thought we'd seen it all with Barney. Turns out we were wrong, and it makes for an incredibly satisfying moment for the character.
