10 Reasons Why The Boys Was Better As A TV Series

6. Starlight Has More Agency

The Boys' true shining light is the closest thing we get to an actual super-hero, Starlight. While forced into horrible situations such as being blackmailed into giving sexual favours, having her costume altered to show more skin and being generally manipulated into focusing more on her image than on actual superheroics, Annie often stands her ground and fights back against her situation, which often leads to sort-of-but-not-really compromises on the part of Vought International, such as demoting The Deep after she reveals his assault.

Although comic Starlight eventually fights back against the corruption within the Seven, she initially goes with it, although unwillingly. She has aggressive outbursts, loses her faith and becomes more worn down, mirroring Queen Mauve's story. It's only her relationship with Hughie and the intervention of Mauve that persuades her to fight back.

The show's Starlight has a lot more agency, deciding for herself that she will no longer put up with the Seven and forging her own path. This version of Starlight therefore seems a lot more powerful, and is less easily swayed by other character's in the show, providing a slight bit of hope in an otherwise bleak world.
