10 Reasons Why The Boys Was Better As A TV Series
5. A-Train Has Far More To Do
Can the fastest man alive outrun his insecurities and his problems?
No. No he can't.
The Seven of the comics are fairly one dimensional, each scumbags in their own right, but fairly interchangeable. One of the best things the series did was to humanise its villains, with an example of this is the addition of A-Train's side-plot. Being the supe who killed Hughie's girlfriend Robin, A-Train is set up as Hughie's arch-nemesis, a powerful untouchable evil that Hughie couldn't possibly live up to.
This is until we get a view of her personal life; A-Train is a man who struggles with his own insecurities, particularly in regards to his status. The possibility of being the second fastest man in the world is so unbearable to him that his is willing to relapse into a previous Compound V addiction, alienating his brother and causing his girlfriend, Popclaw, to commit murder via... adult activity.
Compare this to A-Train in the comics, who's main purpose in the story is to assault Starlight, keep saying he wants to assault Starlight again, and then is eventually killed by Hughie. This deviation from the source material definitely helped to produce an interesting, and wholly hateable villain.
