10 Reasons You Should Watch Netflix's Kingdom

5. The Gore

Netflix Kingdom
Netflix

Never quite too excessive, but still hard to stomach in some scenes, the gore and death in this show does not handhold its audience. It goes after everyone in equal measure (apart from, perhaps, its protagonists).

Unlike the more sanitised violence of Hollywood, that spares certain people from any real suffering, this show has violent death come upon men, women, and children. Young children are eaten by their infected parents, as well as screaming innocents who are killed as a result of both unavoidable circumstances as well as the ignorance of others.

The gore never quite reaches self-indulgent levels, despite there being some camp in this series. It's more visceral, more grounded, and makes the stakes feel ten times realer than they are in other films or series.

The makeup on the zombie creatures is impeccable and unsettling, and the beautifully-choreographed, equally unsettling movements showing the broken bones and rot affecting these shambling creatures keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

And with the only way to kill or stop these creatures being decapitation, burning, or full impalement, the gore doesn't stop just because the people are able to fight back, either.
