8. Ghosts (Season 10, Episode 3)
Since the Whisperers came into the picture (which we'll get to), The Walking Dead has entered the realm of horror like never before, with each and every episode since sporting a dark and ominous tone promising death and violence.
Season Ten's third episode sees Alexandria attacked with horde after horde of Alpha's walkers, with characters like Daryl, Michonne, Aaron, Rosita and Eugene right on the front line. The sequence is dark and brilliantly edited, and opens the door for Daryl, Michonne and Carol to lead a peace talk with Alpha.
After Carol tries to kill Alpha, the group flee into the forest and Carol begins to hallucinate that they're being followed.
The whole episode is a deep dive into the fractured psyche of Carol, broken after the loss of Henry in the previous season and high on prescription meds used to keep her awake.
Watching the events play out, it's hard to tell which parts are real and which are imagined, making the scene where Carol is trapped in a school gym, seemingly surrounded by Whisperers, all the more terrifying.
