10 Scariest Episodes Of The Walking Dead (So Far)

7. Beside The Dying Fire (Season 2, Episode 13)

Like all modern zombie creations, The Walking Dead took great influence from George A Romero's Night of the Living Dead series, and no episode better shows of the horror maestro's influence than the Season Two finale, Beside the Dying Fire.

Kicking off with a sweeping shot of walkers making their way to the Greene Family farm and moving to show Rick and Carl running away from the amassing horde, the finale is a relentless stream of horror, death and violence. Completely encased in darkness, the episode sees the group split up and armed in hopes of holding off the walkers from the farm.

Along the way, Jimmy and Patricia are killed in particularly gruesome fashion and the group try all they can to fend off the waves of walkers.

All told, Beside the Dying Fire is the kind of episode Romero would have made had he had the chance to join the show - a thrilling, ominous, intense spectacle of violence and perfect example of what people are capable of when pushed to fight for their survival.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
