10 Scariest Episodes Of The Walking Dead (So Far)
6. What Happened And What's Going On (Season 5, Episode 9)
What Happened and What's Going On is at its core an exploration into what it's like to succumb to a walker bite. This was only briefly touched on in Season One, after the group left Jim to turn on the side of the road, and slightly earlier in Season Five with Bob. Unlike these two, the writers decided to go inside the mind of Tyreese as he slowly died.
Tyreese was a great character - strong, wise, but completely at odds with the new world, unable to find his footing. After he and a small group journey to Noah's childhood home, the big guy is bitten and, as Noah races to find the others, he begins to hallucinate, seeing deceased characters such as Beth, The Governor, Lizzie, Mika, Bob and Martin as they guide him through his pain.
Watching it play out is hard to watch, and scary simply because it allows fans to see what it's like for everyone who is bitten - thinking about loved ones, fighting with their fear, trying to hold on.
This is one of the show's most underrated episodes, and Tyreese's death effectively hammers home the fact that the group is broken beyond repair.
