5. Squeeze (Season 10, Episode 9)
Season Ten's Squeeze is kind of like The Descent (2005), only with walkers and (somehow) more darkness.
Trapped by Alpha in the previous episode, a small group of Survivors find themselves in a deep, maze-like cave, which is being used to house hundreds upon hundreds of walkers. As the group try to find a way out - led by Daryl and Magna - they are forced to push through narrow tunnels, fight off Whisperer ambushes, and tackle their fractured dynamic.
Squeeze is a seriously claustrophobic episode, dark and moody and overflowing with the sense that something else is going to go horribly wrong. Watching the veteran walker killers try to wriggle their way to freedom, you're sure to be holding your breath or begging for someone to swoop in and save the day.
By the time the episode comes to an end, there's a clear sense that nothing will ever be the same again - for the characters, and for audiences left dumbfounded at home.
