The introduction of the Whisperers to the show was bound to be a hard thing to pull off. They're such a vicious and terrifying threat in the comic series, it was always going to be a worry how they would translate on screen.

But, as with the vast majority of the show's big moments, The Walking Dead did not disappoint.

As Daryl, Aaron and Jesus head out to find an injured Eugene, they come across a horde, circling like vultures on an open field. Noting this peculiarity, the trio manage to find Eugene, who informs them that the horde isn't normal; that the walkers within it were whispering to each other.

This is a freaky enough revelation, especially for those who had never read the comics, but it all turned up to eleven when, cornered in a graveyard, Jesus holds off the walkers to let the others escape and is suddenly killed by a walker. This is the first Whisperer shown on screen, and in killing Jesus the new group solidifies itself as a serious threat.

The episode ends with the Whisperers encroaching on the other Survivors, whispering to each other as their targets arm up, ready to fight. It's guaranteed to give you chills, and sparked the beginning of The Walking Dead's latest era in truly chilling fashion.
