The Ori were the final major group of bad guys to appear in Stargate SG-1. Unlike the Goa’uld or Wraith, the Ori was a heavily religious organization that rivaled the technologically focused Ancients. The Ancients and the Ori both ascended. Basically, they were able to make themselves into immortal beings of energy, and go about their own pursuits in peace.

For the Ori, this meant creating a group of humans that specifically worshiped them as gods and created an empire to convert the universe in a mighty intergalactic crusade.

In the SG-1 episode "Origin", Doctor Daniel Jackson and his partner Vala Mal Doran have their consciousness transferred into the bodies of humans living in a whole new galaxy beyond the Milky Way and the Pegasus galaxy.

Daniel and Vala now had to survive in this new galaxy ruled by followers of the Ori, who violently kill those that they believe to be witches or nonbelievers. Vala is even buried alive for heresy until she is revived.

In Origin, Daniel and Vala are brought to the leaders of the Ori religion, called Priors, and learn a lot about their new foe. A Prior sets himself on fire to show his dedication to the Ori, and just before Daniel and Vala are burned alive their connection to the humans of the Ori galaxy is severed.

Though it must be said that the innocent humans most likely still burned alive after waking up disoriented and afraid, which is scary enough. Jut a whole lot of terrifying burning in this episode.
