10 Scrapped Ideas For Star Trek: Enterprise Season 5

5. The Birth Of The Federation

One of the great unexplored periods of Star Trek's history surrounds the birth of the Federation itself. We have seen the beginnings of Starfleet, through the eyes of Archer and his crew. The adventures of the NX-01 were both exciting and a little frustrating, as there were elements of history that it couldn't tackle, not without running into the roadblock of canon.

The fifth season was potentially going to feature the birth of the Federation or at least that the groundwork would have been laid. The events of the fourth season brought the Andorians, Tellarites, and Vulcans closer together. They, along with humans, are the founding members of the Federation, so the process by which they became even closer allies was there to explore.

When Star Trek: Discovery began, the Federation was already pushing 100 years old, so there is a blank space between the two shows that would have been wonderful for the fifth season of Enterprise to depict. While there was a brief shot of Archer walking up to deliver a speech at the ceremony in These Are The Voyages, that episode was set ten years after the events of the fourth season. There are still plenty of stories left to be told there.
