It's no secret that Terry Nation was considering including the Daleks in the series 2 finale of Blake's 7. Nor is it a secret that both Gareth Roberts and Tom Baker harboured a desire to cameo in character as Blake and the Doctor on each other's shows. However, what comes out of the Destiny of the Daleks Making of documentary is the suggestion that producer Graham Williams put the kibosh on the Dalek's appearance in Blake's 7.

Fan and filmmaker Kevin Davies tells of an interview he conducted with Douglas Adams at the start of Season 17's production. Davies says that he had let slip to Adams and producer Graham Williams that Terry Nation had spoken of a desire to bring the Daleks back but in Blake's 7 rather than Doctor Who. Williams, who was looking for something to grab the audiences attention at the opening of the series, was slightly confused by this. Surely the Daleks belonged in Doctor Who, not Blake's 7?

Davies joins the dots to suggest that Williams approached Nation to convince him to bring his infamous creations back where they belonged for the first time in four years.
