10 Shocking Twists That Would Improve Major TV Shows
2. Raylan Gets Fired Justified
Raylan Givens is a U.S. Federal Marshal, but he really shouldn't be. He's the loose-cannon cop with a chip on his shoulder, but sometimes his actions take him entirely outside the realm of plausibility, particularly in regards to how he carries himself as a representative of the law. This season (SPOILERS) opened with Raylan accused of police brutality (or federal agent brutality) by Dewey Crowe before the plaintiff receives $300K due to his repeated mistreatment. Of course, Raylan shrugs it off. In fact, later in the episode Raylan again breaks the rules and intimidates Dewey by shooting his new pool. But you would think after constantly causing the Marshal program problems they would finally get fed up with his negligence. A big, and worthwhile twist in the show's structure would be to have Raylan get fired from the Marshal service and then have him branch out on his own. He has always been a character that plays by his own rules to enact justice, so if he were to start up his own agency (say, bounty hunting or private detective firm) he would be infinitely more successful and less constrained by the system. An even better idea? Have him team up with former enemy Boyd Crowder to dole out Kentucky-fried vigilante justice. The show would be extra awesome if it streamlined the stories of the two male leads, because while Boyd's character is a fascinating and complex now, his stories seem to run perpendicular to the main narrative thrust. Tying the two righteous yet unlawful characters together would make for very entertaining television.
