10 Shocking Twists That Would Improve Major TV Shows
3. Troy Is Recast Community
As I am sure most of you know, Donald Glover is only going to appear on five episodes of Community this season. I don't know how the show is going to deal with his absence yet (I'm only caught up to the most recent episode), but it's going to be sad to see Troy Barnes leave. Glover's acting, mostly his crying, has been a highlight of the show since the first season. It's going to be hard for the show to make up for the loss of two of its group members (including Chevy Chase's departure). So my suggestion is, don't drop the character just because Glover is leaving. In true Fresh Prince of Bel Air style, recast Glover. I know that certain fans of Community are angry at the show for becoming too meta, which is a valid criticism seeing as they just did a David Fincher parody episode about someone putting coins in the butt cracks of Greendale students, so I think mentioning the recasting so overtly would be the wrong direction to take. Instead, why don't they recast Troy so Abed can continue to have a character to bounce off of without mentioning it at all? Not even the hyper-sensitive Abed would bat an eye at the absence of old-Troy, new-Troy would just be seamlessly integrated into the fold. The joke would then be that the show doesn't acknowledge it, but that is a legitimate risk; a risk that would make the show very interesting to watch.
