10 Shows That Wasted Their Perfect Ending

5. One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill clocked in nearly 200 episodes over almost ten years of broadcast. A classic teen drama, the show centred around the lives of half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott as they learned to accept each other and tackle the problems of the big wide world together.

That's slightly condescending, but not wholly inaccurate.

Signs that the series was on the decline emerged after Season 6. The actor who played Lucas, Chad Michael Murray, announced that he was not returning to the show. The same applied to Hilarie Burton, who played another major character, Peyton Sawyer.

One Tree Hill carried on into a seventh and eighth season despite these losses with the latter providing a beautiful final episode. Characters Haley and Brooke reopen a cafe belonging to Lucas' mother, Brooke gives birth, and Nathan's son Jamie touchingly recreates an iconic shot of his father from the series' first episode.

Everything came full circle... until the show was commissioned for a ninth and final season.

The perfect ending was right there! Instead fans ended up getting thirteen more episodes where one of the main characters gets kidnapped! Why?!
