2. Up The Threat Level
Along with a new hope must come a new threat. Despite the call for a complete parting of the ways from the graphic novels, there are still hints there of a potential enemy: The Whisperers. In the comics, these are people who wear the skins of the undead so as to live among them. This may be creepy, but ultimately its a dude in a suit; what would be far more interesting would be to take the idea and run with it. What could be creepier than finding that not all of the undead are equal? What if some of them did actually retain something of themselves? Imagine seeing one of the group attacked by a walker thats pleading kill me. The virology of the infection is entirely unclear and its almost certain that Robert Kirkman is no biologist. Quite why a bite from someone else infected with the same virus should act as a catalyst is unclear, but it also leaves the potential for someone with a natural immunity that leaves them either impervious to the deeper form or in some way retaining consciousness. Being more creative with the virus and what it does could provide just the difference between the show and comics thats needed.
