When Eugene was brought in with his dodgy mullet and a promise of a cure, many who were unaware of the plotline of the comics must have whooped with delight. Not that there is any need to rush the successful show to a conclusion, but having a light to aim for is crucial to avoid the drudgery of getting through each day alive. This wasnt to be, however, and Eugene turned out to a chancer, but that kind of plot point is exactly what the show needs. Heading towards something rather than just blindly bumbling about gives the audience something to talk about and the characters somewhere to go. How will they react with yet another sliver of hope handed to them? Will they be too battle-weary to trust? Will they grab it with both hands? Will some be reluctant to rejoin society, feeling that they have a place in this new world that was better than where they were? The show may have plenty of tension, but it does lack direction. Knowing where you are going, even if you dont know how youre going to get there, gives added drive and determination.
I.T. Consultant, technophile and Doctor Who fan. I like to talk about tech, take films apart and make excuses for Doctor Who's continuity errors. No other show has the power to make me feel like a big kid.
