10 Simple Fixes That Would Save The Walking Dead

4. A Whole New Set Of Characters

Obviously this would be pointless unless there was some link to the existing group and would have to be used sparing and carefully, but weaving two plot threads together leaves room for a more intriguing tale. So far the story has been about losing humanity, or trying to hold on to some semblance of it - doing that without hope is likely difficult, and one of the most basic human needs is contact. There have been hints of this before, and other groups have of course melded with the original set of characters, but this is a call for a completely different story arc. New characters would give the writers the opportunity to imagine what might be going on elsewhere in the country and show the struggles of different types of society. There would be other survivors, other survivalists, as well as the rich and powerful who would have taken precautions. Perhaps some wealthy gun nut with a safe house and a helicopter, perhaps some border patrol style clean-up teams determined to get rid of the walkers, or a make-shift government calling out to citizens for help. There is a whole universe of characters and events that could be used to build on the established group.
