10 Simpsons Theories That Make Too Much Sense To Ignore

8. Springfield Is In Oregon

There has always been a mystery surrounding where exactly in the USA Springfield is located, and has even become something of a joke for the writers as they purposefully try and confuse the issue further. However, YouTube channel The Films Theorists may have figured out in which state the Simpsons actually live.

For obvious reasons, Hawaii and Alaska are out, and since radio stations beginning with K can only be found west of the Mississippi in the USA, Springfield's KBBL rules out the 26 states that wholly lie east of the river. Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas are eliminated by Bart and co. having to drive through Missouri to reach Knoxville, Tennessee in 'Bart on the Road', and in the same episode, California, Nevada, and Utah are all confirmed to have no nuclear reactors labelled Springfield.

Eight more states (Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma) are ruled out for having no mountains higher than 8000ft, hence no possible Murderhorn for Homer to climb in 'King of the Hill', and in 'Boy-Scoutz 'n the Hood', Homer had never even heard of New Mexico, so it's unlikely he lives there.

Arizona is ruled out as it doesn't observe Daylight Savings, something that has made Homer late for work in the past, and since Springfield has been shown to be relatively close to the sea, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming are all ruled out for being too far from the ocean.

This leaves only Oregon or Washington, and since Homer's paycheck is deducted state tax in 'Much Apu About Nothing', something that is not applicable in Washington State, the only option remaining is Oregon. This is even supported by the fact that Matt Groening is from Portland, Oregon, with Flanders, Lovejoy, Quimby, and Evergreen Terrace all being street names where he grew up.
