10 Star Trek Characters Who MUST Return

It is time.

Twenty years and more have passed since Captain Benjamin Sisko promised his wife he would be home yesterday, with the Star Trek universe being upended, put back together again and generally given a solid shake. The time for Sisko to return is most definitely nigh. While Avery Brooks declined to participate in What We Left Behind, feeling that he had said everything he needed to say about the character, that does preclude a return to the role itself.

The expansion of his story, coming to terms with how things have changed while he has been away, would make for a fascinating voyage of discovery. In the world of science fiction, the age difference could be easily explained away or dealt with through make-up and CGI. He has two children out there and a wife who is running her own shipping business, with a base in Boston no less.

But what's more than all of that, Deep Space Nine has enjoyed the resurgence in popularity that it never received on its original run. The cast are all still close and the will to work on various stories is still there. Looking at the writers' room for the hypothetical eighth season, it was easy to see that there are still plenty of directions left for the story to take.

Sisko remains one of Star Trek's great unresolved story threads, neither dead nor truly alive. If Picard can become an android and Janeway can become a cartoon, then surely Ben Sisko can grace us all with his presence, even if its one last time.
